Educational Programs 

SAED: Synopsys Armenia Educational Department 

To provide Armenia with highly qualified and industry-ready IT specialists, Synopsys heavily invests locally in microelectronics education and is engaged in a number of successful cooperation programs with major universities of Armenia and of the region. These programs are executed through the Synopsys Armenia Educational Department (SAED). SAED is a part of Synopsys University Program. SAED provides Synopsys and other IT companies with engineering talent by realizing "Industry/University" Educational Model. The success and achievements of SAED turns into a regional Center of Excellence. To date more than 350 students have graduated from these programs, the majority of which are now professional engineers employed at Synopsys Armenia. Director of SAED: Doctor of Science, Professor Vazgen Sh. Melikyan has been the head since SAED establishment.

SAED Activities

State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA)

The SEUA "Microelectronic Circuits and Systems" Chair was established on August 1, 2001 by SEUA Scientific Council decision. On December 1, 2004, the Chair became a member of the Synopsys Worldwide University Program by cooperation agreement between Synopsys Armenia CJSC and SEUA. Yerevan State University (YSU)


On December 7, 2005, YSU became a member of the Synopsys Worldwide University Program by cooperation agreement between Synopsys Armenia CJSC and YSU. Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University (RAU)

European Regional Academy (ERA)
ERA
On June 23, 2011, ERA became a member of the Synopsys Worldwide University Program by cooperation agreement between VivaCell MTS, Synopsys Armenia CJSC, and ERA. The program has also established “Microelectronic Circuits and Systems of Communication Facilities” Chair in Informatics and Applied Mathematics, Information Technologies in Management specialties. National Research University of Electronic Technology (MIET)
MIET
On October 6, 2006, MIET became a member of the Synopsys Worldwide University Program by cooperation agreement between Synopsys Armenia CJSC and MIET. Top students will continue their education in the SAED program after completing the Bachelor program. MORE ABOUT OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH MIET
To prepare highly qualified and industry-ready specialists in the field of VLSI design and EDA who will meet the specific requirements of semiconductor and IT companies SAED realizes "Industry/University" Educational Model.

Based on industry cooperation with participating universities, the model perfectly combines the academic and industrial advantages. To support this model Synopsys put in place computer laboratory infrastructures and donated hundreds of EDA software tool packages to participating universities.

In the first years of the Bachelor program, students obtain a basic education in Mathematics, Physics, etc. at their university. After acquiring a basic education around the 4th or 5th semester, the top-performing students are selected to continue their studying in SAED. Selection of students is made by leading Synopsys technical experts and first-rate professors of the university.

Further education in the Bachelor program, Master program and PhD studies is conducted by customized SAED curriculum for VLSI design and EDA. This custom curriculum addresses the contemporary requirements of leading semiconductor industry and IT companies with involvement of the area's best professionals and professors.

Studies are carried out in specially-equipped classrooms donated by Synopsys (located in both Synopsys Armenia and the university) where each student has access to the latest EDA software tools via the network. Teaching, supervision of course projects, diploma works, Master theses and PhD dissertations are targeted toward real industry projects at Synopsys Armenia, which are completed jointly with leading professionals from Synopsys and experienced professors from the university.

Upon successful completion of the SAED program, graduates are qualified to work for Synopsys Armenia as well as other IT companies.
The Synopsys Armenia Educational Department supports Armenia IT development programs that promote interest in microelectronic design and highlight achievements by the best and brightest engineering students. Currently Synopsys supports the Annual Educational awards of RA President to the best students in the IT sector and the Annual Armenian Microelectronics Olympiad. The number of students and professional engineers participating in these events is growing each year and is a great way for young engineers to demonstrate their technical skills and creative talents.
In addition to creating and teaching custom VLSI Design and EDA curriculum and sponsoring Armenia’s IT development programs, Synopsys is also a leader in developing the technical infrastructure in partner universities.

The Charles Babbage grant creates a modern electronic design facility for Synopsys partner universities and enables them to expand their engineering programs into all aspects of state-of-the-art System-on-Chip design including implementation, verification, test, and design for manufacturing. Partner universities use the new engineering laboratory for their microelectronic design teaching and advanced research programs.

On September 23, 2005 Synopsys Inc. announced that State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA) is a winner of a Charles Babbage Grant and established the Distance Learning Classroom for the State Engineering (SEUA).

On September 27, 2006 Yerevan State University received the Charles Babbage Grant from Synopsys for Armenia Charitable Foundation and Sun Micro Systems and a modern electronic design facility was created at YSU.

On October 6, 2006 Synopsys announced that MIET is a winner of a Charles Babbage Grant and established the Synopsys Charles Babbage Computing Laboratory at MIET.
